Dates for 2004 Americas Cup pre-regattas announced -
03.29.04 (8:19 am) [edit]
The 2004 Sports Programme for the 32nd America’s Cup
Marseille Louis Vuitton 5th – 11th September Act 1 of the 32nd America’s Cup Fleet and Match Racing
Valencia Louis Vuitton 5th – 12th October Act 2 of the 32nd America’s Cup Match Racing
Valencia Louis Vuitton 14th 17th October Act 3 of the 32nd America’s Cup Fleet Racing
The location for the disclosure of the sports programme for 2004 was the family house of Louis Vuitton in Asnières, Paris. Hosting the evening was Yves Carcelle, President of Louis Vuitton, and present among his guests were, Francisco Camps Ortiz, Presidente de la Generalitat Valenciana, Rita Barbera, Mayoress of Valencia, and France Gamerre, Adjoint Mayor of Marseille.

“I am delighted that these first Acts, which bear the name Louis Vuitton, will be in Marseille and Valencia – two cities which share a long passion for the America’s Cup,” said Yves Carcelle. “I am also happy to see the programme coming together so quickly, and that the hard work of AC Management is already bearing fruit.”
Representatives of the Defender Alinghi, along with the three French Challenger projects, Le Défi, K-Challenge and Team France were also amongst the guests, all of whom declared their intentions to compete this year. Several other projects are expected to join them in the races in Marseille and Valencia. The Defender, Alinghi, and the Challenger of Record, Oracle BMW Racing, will attend all three Acts.
The Marseille Louis Vuitton Act will feature an exciting format of both fleet and match racing, over a week-long programme.
One month later the America’s Cup teams will get their first taste of racing in Valencia during Act 2 of the 32nd America’s Cup. Spanish fans of the America’s Cup are to be treated to a spectacular double billing of action as the latest ACC boats battle just metres from the shore.
Racing for Act 2 begins on the 5th of October with a dramatic match race event based in the Host City of the 32nd America’s Cup and will conclude with a spectacular celebration on Spain’s National Day, the 12th October. Act 3 concludes the season with four days of fleet racing beginning on the 14th October.

Open Letter to Mike Maree and Carl Raikes of PG Glass Western Cape
03.24.04 (8:57 pm) [edit]
The crew and owners of [b]Majimoto racing with PG Glass [/b]all express a resounding thank you to PG Glass, Mike and Carl, not just for our fantastic end of series braai, but for the ongoing encouragement and sponsorship of Maji. You guys have made it possible, not just through our new sails, but mostly by believing in us, to crack several top positions over the past weeks. Positions that enabled PG Glass racing with Majimoto to finish second against some stiff opposition in the Twighlight series ... and meet some of your incredible clients along the way. Not only have they had fun - we have too, and our guys will redouble their efforts to provide value to your VIP guests and keep the PG Glass Western Cape flag flying. Thank you for becoming part of our team ... [i]Lindsay Birch Paul Mare Andrew Marsland Paul Eidelstein Mikey Wooldridge Ceri Lewis Wavy Immelman Andrew Thomson Simon Hamer Andy Mark [/i]

Despite a dry start to the series the crew have come on form and a string of good results recently enabled us to take second place in the series... Well done everyone!

Sailors get more girls!
03.23.04 (3:34 am) [edit]
Sailors always get more girls ... is it because of our rugged good looks? , or is it, as Simon says, simply becuase we make our rules clear from the outset?
These are our rules:-
Please note... these are all numbered "1" ON PURPOSE AS THEY ARE ALL THE ONE GOLDEN RULE
1. Breasts are for looking at and that is why we do it. Don't try to change that.
1. Learn to work the toilet seat. You're a big girl. If it's up, put it down. We need it up, you need it down. You don't hear us complaining about you leaving it down.
1. Saturday = sailing. It's like the full moon or the changing of the tides. Let it be.
1. Wednesday = sailing. It's like the full moon or the changing of the tides. Let it be.
1. Public holidays = sailing. It's like the full moon or the changing of the tides. Let it be.
1. Shopping is NOT a sport. And no, we are never going to think of it that way.
1. Crying is blackmail.
1. Ask for what you want. Let us be clear on this one: Subtle hints do not work! Strong hints do not work! Obvious hints do not work! Just say it!
1. Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every question.
1. Come to us with a problem only if you want help solving it. That's what we do. Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for.
1. A headache that lasts for 17 months is a problem. See a doctor.
1. Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an argument. In fact, all comments become null and void after 7 days.
1. If you think you're fat, you probably are. Don't ask us.
1. If something we said can be interpreted two ways, and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, we meant the other one.
1. You can either ask us to do something or tell us how you want it done. Not both. If you already know best how to do it, just do it yourself.
1. Whenever possible, please say whatever you have to say during commercials.
1. Christopher Columbus did not need directions and neither do we.
1. ALL men see in only 16 colours, like Windows default settings. Peach, for example, is a fruit, not a colour. Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what Mauve is.
1. If it itches, it will be scratched. We do that.
1. If we ask what is wrong and you say "nothing," we will act like nothing's wrong. We know you are lying, but it is just not worth the hassle.
1. If you ask a question you don't want an answer to, expect an answer you don't want to hear.
1. When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear is fine. Really.
1. Don't ask us what we're thinking about unless you are prepared to discuss such topics as Sex, Sport, or Cars.
1. You have enough clothes.
1. You have too many shoes.
1. I am in shape. Round is a shape.
Thank you for reading this; Yes, I know, I have to sleep on the couch tonight, but did you know men really don't mind that, it's like camping.

PG Glass Racing with Majimoto continues winning streak
03.18.04 (5:22 am) [edit]
This rocket ship is flying! Make sure you're aboard. Is it an almost clean bottom and new sails? Is it Karma, or the Feng Shui of a bottle of Captain Morgan waiting below decks? Is it the aerodynamic new PG logo above? What ever it is, PG Glass Majimoto II is fast - and showing the fleet what its transom looks like!
A light south westerly greeted us as we left the harbour with some rather ominous looking calm patches lurking in the bay. Paul set up Maji at the pin end of the line which gave us a nice clean start on the gun and most importantly, clear air. A short beat to number 4 had us rounding in second just behind Tenacity who got off to a flyer. A glance back) revealed some rather large yachts, Thunderchild (53ish feet) and Bossanova (64ish feet) bobbing about in our wake - oh the satisfaction of putting one over the big boys.
The fetch out to number 2 and the light winds meant that the crew spent much of the time on the leeward rail. Our VIP PG Glass guests, Robbi Cohen and Dirk de Jong, looked a bit mistrusting when asked to sit "down there!" only inches from the water. However being from the motor industry they were game for anything and even when Mike's shirt got 'eaten' by the Genoa car,the adventure and promise of warming liquid later overcame any hesitancy.
We rounded No 2, poled out the genoa and made good ground on Tenacity who was flying their bag in spinnaker class. Thunderchild did their best to blanket us and take our wind, but some slick sailing and timeouts and quick gybing (well done foredeck) allowed us to hold the breeze and maintain our lead at the turn mark. The beat to number 4 was rather tense, with wind switches, calm patches and threatening pack just behind us. The gods smiled on us and gave us a lift when we needed it and allowed us to make the mark on one tack and still ahead of the big boats.
During final run down to the finish the gods looked else where and we lost the wind 20 meters short of the line. This left Thunderchild through ahead with Maji finishing next, we had them on handicap so it was a small price to pay in a glorious race. Thanks to sponsors, owners, crew and guests, see you (and Carl) next week.
Andrew Thomson

Pregnant with anticipation...
03.15.04 (1:10 pm) [edit]
Majimoto Racing with PG Glass welcomes Robbie, Mike Collins of PG Glass and Roy... Wind 30 clicks NW partly cloudy & no rain.
And a little personal news ... It seems I gave my Nicky an unexpected birthday present - Nicks came to me on Saturday morning with a stick - sort of like a pen or wand thing - and when she handed it to me I peered into the window on the face of it. Bold as anything where two pinkish stripes. Nicky's eyes where very big. And yes, we're going to have another baby ...
We confirmed the fact a little later. Janine, our GP, has threatened to cut my willie off. New foredeck crew expected October :D

And so we had to make the best of it... As you can see, Maji is a pure race boat - not much wood panelling in sight, but hey if this cabin could talk! - Maji has done a few trans atlantics and also been to St. Helena - plus many sea miles racing around Cape Town ...

03.09.04 (10:57 am) [edit]
Hi guys. I have been neglecting our site for a few days. Unbelievable pressure at work... you all in the same boat so you know how it goes. We have PG Guests along for the ride tomorrow night - party on! Conflicting weather reports are the name of the game ... It does look like it is going to be breezy - If racing is blown out perhaps a cruise through the V&A is in order? Crew who can please try get down to the yacht early - Lindsay needs a hand with the starboard PG decal - (Sorry Simon! I took time out for the Sharks game and not much else - worked all weekend) We should have had the decal up on Saturday.
Nelson Mandela Bay Isuzu Week is in the hands of Captain Morgan, PG Glass PE and Shatterprufe - I will call all tomorrow and try get finality. I have promised sponsors drinks aboard every night, and cruising before and after the Regatta. Be prepared to knuckle down and earn our supper:
I also promised sponsors a win - so work hard boys and girls ...

Development sailing
03.04.04 (9:34 pm) [edit]
=http://img21.photobucket.com/...%20Glass%20racing/CeriZan dhile.jpg
Over the years the Royal Cape Yacht Club has invested heavily in the training of development sailing. Many of the young sailors have been helped by organisations like Love Life and the Jewish Maritime League. Lindsay and Paul, owners of PG Glass racing with Majimoto have also played a significant role in the training of development crew. Many of the Love Life adventurers have spent some time on our boat. For those of you reading this web log from abroad, it is difficult to imagine the conditions of grinding poverty some of these sailors live in, and how sailing has opened up horizons and opportunities. Several youngsters having competed in long distance ocean races and cruises to the far corners of our globe. Here Zandhile, a young student from Cape Town is thoroughly enjoying her Wednesday night race with Ceri. (Hide the beer Ceri, your Mom reads this Blog!)

South Africa to field Americas Cup entry?
03.04.04 (10:47 am) [edit]
=http://img21.photobucket.com/...%20Cup/sailing_picture_2_ web.jpg It seems rumours are indeed true that South Africa may field an Americas cup entry for the 2007 event. The Prada yachts are apparently due here next week for training purposes while race boats are under construction - rules say that the race boats must be built in the country of the competing club. There are also 'Shosholza' posters appearing in yacht clubs calling for CV's of hopeful sailors ... watch this space!

03.03.04 (1:45 pm) [edit]
A medicore start saw PG Glass Majimoto mid field of the class 1 boats down to the first mark, and then inch by inch we managed to edge our way closer to the front of the pack, only to sail into a an area of no wind around the penultimate turn, the rest of the fleet bearing down on us far too quickly! We picked up their breeze and put in a couple of covering tacks to just pip Fascination of Power at the finish. 4th on corrected time again. The PG Glass guests looked like they had a good time and the usual celebratory Captain Morgans where broken out when we tied up... well done eveyrone. Hope you feel better our Ceri ...
